At the heart of the Toronto Product Management Association is something truly special: a community of volunteers who show up, share their time, and make a lasting impact.
They plan events, run mentorship programs, welcome new members, moderate Slack channels, and bring our product community to life. Every Slack message, meeting, or idea shared is a ripple that grows into something much bigger.
This National Volunteer Week (April 27 – May 3), we’re taking the time to celebrate the volunteers who make TPMA stronger, more connected, and full of possibility. This week is for you — to reflect on your impact, share your stories, and thank you for everything you do.
TPMA has always been built on the power of volunteers.
In fact, it all started with one volunteer — Alan Armstrong — who believed Toronto needed a space for product managers to connect, learn, and support each other. Back in 2001, Alan, along with Prasing Ga and Paul Chen, founded TPMA with a small group of “very green” PMs meeting in the basement of Sitraka to talk about the challenges of the role.
That small gathering sparked something much bigger.
Alan’s vision and passion for community laid the foundation for what TPMA has become today: one of the leading product management organizations in North America. His legacy lives on in the conversations we continue, the events we host, and the connections we make.
We’re proud to carry that spirit forward — because TPMA has always relied on volunteers. From day one to today, everything we do is made possible by people who give their time, share their ideas, and help others grow.
